AIDS Activist Tee Shirts

Art drives a movement

Art was an important facet of the AIDS activist movement of the 1980s and 90s.  The art collective Gran Fury designed a number of iconic images used on tee shirts along with a number of other artists including well-known artist and activist Keith Haring who died of AIDS in 1990.  Islanders Stephen Floyd and Phil Dunn were members of the activist group ACT UP and RATS (Radical Action Truth Squad) and saved tee shirts from the era.
