Gender Garden

Where do you stand?

Islander Terry Welch created a Japanese-inspired Zen Gender Garden to invite us all to explore our gender and sexuality.  The garden concept is based on a Gender Cube created by former Islander Char Carroll.

Char Carroll explains:  I have designed this model as an experiential aid in raising awareness of the many possibilities for human gender expression.   There are at least 3 different categories on each continuum: male, intersex, female; homosexual, bisexual, heterosexual; and masculine, androgynous, feminine.  So you could look at it as a 3-dimensional cube with 27 different gender/sexuality possibilities. My hope is that understanding will lead to acceptance, and acceptance will lead us out of fear and into freedom.
